I have forced some of my slur directions to be either up or down (select the slur, right-click, direction: up or down, or sometimes "flip"), but every time I re-open the file, it seems they go back to "default." Is there any cause or fix for this? v26, MacOS10.14.6

Brian Gnojek,

Unfortunately I have not ben able to reproduce your problem.

For me the slur direction stays after I have saved and re-opened the Finale document.

1) Does it happen in all Finale documents - or is the problem document specific?

2) Can you provide steps to reproduce the problem ?

Do you have multiple copies of the file and are opening the older of the two?

Sorry for the late reply. It does not seem to happen with all Finale documents, but it did with 3 out of 4.

Steps:

  • Open File
  • Document>Edit Part>Bass Clarinet
  • Select Smart Shape Tool
  • Select the Slur in the part by clicking the little box under it.
  • Right-click>Direction>Flip (I've also tried selecting the opposite of whatever it currently is: over/under)
  • Save
  • Quit
  • Reopen Finale, and select the same file
  • Document>Edit Part>Bass Clarinet

The shape is back to its default placement.

Brian Gnojek,

Unfortunately I have not ben able to reproduce your problem.

I followed your steps to the letter, and the shape stayed put in its flipped direction.

Which is no surprise since the issue seems to be document specific (as you pointed out).

You should probably open a case with the folks in Tech Support, and send them your Finale document so that they can examine it.

By The Way (off topic):

I am surprised by your steps

  • Quit
  • Reopen Finale

Instead of quitting Finale, why do you not keep Finale open, close just the document, and open the document again?

To me it seems unnecessary to quit the Finale program, and launch it again, every time you have saved a document.
