I have a small handful of VST instruments and VST effects installed. All is good.

I recently decided that the soft piano provided by Spitfire LABS wasn't cutting it and went hunting for another (affordable) piano VST.

After settling on the sound and price of Waves' Grand Rhapsody, I installed it through Waves Central (the latter has worked nicely for several effects -- zero issues).

Unfortunately, Grand Rhapsody shows up as an effect rather than an instrument. Their tech support sees "Finale" in my request and says "oh no, we don't support that"... good luck... and, well... yeah. That's gone about as well as you might expect.

I have tried a bunch of things and so far nothing has worked. Grand Rhapsody actually plays nicely via the mouse when I select it as an effect from within Finale. Obviously, that's not the sort of functionality I'm after, however...

Any ideas on how to get Waves' Grand Rhapsody VST instrument to show up as an instrument and not an effect in Finale?

Cheers

This doesn't seem to be a Finale problem. I did a quick google search of this and came across several Waves users who all had the problem you describe in various DAWs.

There are two camps re Waves—the ‘swear by’ and the ‘swear at’. I’ll leave that alone other than hoping you get that sorted out.

There is an ok piano included with Finale, of course.

In the mean time, you can score a few decent piano VIs for free if you look around. SampleTank 4 CS has 4GB of sounds at the best (free) price. The ST Player is the same, no matter the version—the paid editions have more libraries. You load it instead of Aria to access the VSTs. Definitely watch the video—ST4 is quite powerful but not intuitive. BTW, ST4 runs all ST3 libraries making CS a free upgrade for those having issues with ST3 libraries in Mojave or Win10.

No acoustic piano anymore but 6GB of other VIs with Komplete Starter.

Here are 10 more including SoftPiano you mentioned earlier.
