Does anyone know if it's possible to export velocities and start/stop times for notes in XML. I admit, I've never used or had to use XML for export before, so I don't know much about it's capabilities. I am trying to export files that I have created at real time using velocities and other performance data transmitted via keyboard. When I export XML from 27 to 26, I'm losing the staccato and marcato data I played in to the scores. I need this data for the client to be able to hear the chart for approval before I commit to adding the final articulations and expressions. It's a weird request probably but I created a few charts in 27 before deciding there were too many issues with it and so now I've decided to switch back to 26 exclusively.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Cheers! Andy

What program will your recipient open the file in? AFAIK XML 3.x  would indicate articulations, but I cannot say how the receiving program would interpret them. Sending a WAV or mp3 along with the XML or a PDF of the file might help the approval process.

Exactly.

MusicXML is a toolkit. How it works in any app depends on the features integrated by its developers. With the advent of version 4, there are now six levels. To my knowledge, only 27 has implemented v.4 yet.

Knowing what version the receiving app is using helps a lot. Encore, for example, never got beyond v. 1.1 while Notion and LogicProX are at 3.0 (I think) as is my Sibelius 8 client thanks to the Dolet 6.1 plugin— I exchange client files. Dorico's still 3.0, I think but their implementation still leaves much to be desired. As I just posted in another thread, the Dolet 7 plugin allows Finale 2011 and later to import  MusicXML 3.1 while the older v.6 plug allows Finale 2009 to import 3.0 (I think I'm remembering that right) as well as Sibelius. I only see Sibelius 6 and Finale 7 here but someone must still have 6 if needed:

If you click Export Compressed, 1 and 1.1 are greyed out.

You get to that screen a few ways but the easiest is here. You can change on the fly depending on whom you're sharing files with.
