Dear Finale Forum:

Finale defaults to a spacing that is non-standard by placing the first note in a measure too close to the barline.  How does one change that particular item globally in the Program Preferences or Document Options.  I have checked other posts regarding spacing and the suggestion to deselect "Automatic Update Layout" and "Automatic Music Spacing," does not seem to do the trick, since I don't want to manually change the first notes's position in a 3,000 measure work with a 96 piece orchestra.

Can one change this specific spacing problem and remove Finale's default spacing?  (Btw, this issue does not occur on the left-most measure on the page where clefs are placed at the beginning of a system, so that spacing is ok.  It's the following measures that are incorrect.)

In document options/notes and rests you can increase or decrease the "spacing before music" and "spacing after music". That might be what you're looking for.

Other things are factors to this also, the page size/system percentage if applied to a page can make the music look smaller. If it's smaller then the systems will be tighter and the notes will proportionally appear closer to the barline.
