I have a three-page song that is part of a collection and it has these original numbers at the bottom of each page:

Song Title [8]
Song Title [9]
Song Title [10]

The collection of songs is quite old so I don't recall exactly how I changed the offset - in this case, 1 to 8.  Now I need to change the offset to 4 rather than 8 but I can't determine how to do this.  I follow the instructions in the manual but when I edit the first page only the results are:

Song Title [4]
Song Title [4]
Song Title [4]

I then try changing the second page to 5 but this is what happens:

Song Title [5]
Song Title [5]
Song Title [5]

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

1)

In the text block:

Text menu > Inserts > Page Number

This insert will give each page a unique page number.

2)

Select the handle on the text block with the page number.

Text menu > Edit Page Offset…

Thanks, but I have already tried those methods and they do not work for me.  The next thing I tried is deleting all the page numbers and starting from scratch following the instructions in the user manual:

(YES AND NO) means I tried it both ways.

  1. Choose the Text tool .  (YES)
  2. Choose View > Page View. (YES)
  3. Double-click where you want the page number to appear. The text editing frame appears. (YES)
  4. From the Text menu, select font, size and style. (YES)

Skip this step if the default text block settings are the ones you want to use. See Document Options - Fonts.

  5. Choose Text > Inserts > Page Number. (YES AND NO)

You can also use the Total Pages text insert. (YES AND NO)

  6. Choose Text > Frame Attributes. The Frame Attributes dialog box appears. (YES)
  7. Choose Page > All Pages. (YES)
  8. Select the alignment and positioning options from the Alignment and Positioning dropdown menus. (YES)

To use the left and right facing pages feature see Text blocks–To position page-assigned text blocks on left- and right-facing pages. (YES)

  9. Click OK (or press ENTER) to return to the document.  (ERROR - PAGES ARE ALL THE SAME NUMBER!)

Since the usual method does not work for you, the next step is to find out, whether the problem is document specific or program specific.

* What happens if you try the same in

- an empty Document Without Libraries?

- and empty Default Document?
