I am the user of Finale V.27 and I use Macbook pro 10.15 Catalina. I found that when I change the key or time signature and if the bar is the final bar of that page, it will create a space between the staff line and the barline. I am so frustrated about this. Hope someone could solve this problem.

Have you tried an Update Layout? (Utilities menu)

Thank you for your reply but it doesn't work. I would like to tell you how it happens. I am composing an orchestral work. After finishing the first movement, I do not want to create the new score file with same instrumentation as I need to type all the CHINESE word again. Therefore, I duplicate the file and delete those written bars then add new bars in the new duplicated file. In fact, it has problem already, as the new added bars shows some expression markings like crescendo of the previous deleted bars. Then, the space of the final bar of the page appears when I change time/key signature.

Wai Chun Luk,

1) Generally it might help if you specify the steps, you’ve already taken (to solve the problem), so that we can rule out things.

2) From your description it sounds like some sort of file corruption.

My guess is that you do not get the problem, if you try the same in an empty Document Without Libraries (?)

3) Even if it is file corruption, there are some things you can try.

Since you are creating an empty (= no music) template, you can try some “clean up” procedures:

a. Selection Tool.

Select All.

Edit menu > Clear All Items

This step should remove all the “expression markings like crescendo of the previous deleted bars”.

b. Document menu > Page Format > Score…

Take a good look at the settings, and make sure that all the Page Format settings are as needed (= as all new pages should be formatted).

Then, switch to the Page Layout Tool, and Redefine All Pages (look in the Page Layout menu).

Thank you for your reply Peter. I did what you suggest and it still doesn't work. My "empty" score still has space. I hide the key signature, then the space disappear, so I think it is a bug but not the corruption of my file as I did not come across this problem when I type my "first" score. This happen after erasing everything and use this file to compose my second movement. I think Finale v.27 has a problem on clearing ALL items...

A bug is program specific (= happens in all documents).

File corruption is document specific.

Since the problem does not happen in your “first” document, I do not think it is a bug, but rather a document specific issue.

I suggest that you contact the folks in MakeMusic’s Tech Support.

Send them your Finale document, and explain the problem.

I am confident that they can examine the document, and find the culprit.
