Greetings. I am on a Mac, OS Big Sur, 11.5.1

I have had no luck trying to open a Finale 98 file on either Finale 26 or 27. I have:
- changed the extensions to .MUS, .XML, .MUSX
- fiddled with the XML preferences to no avail

Right clicking the file and selecting "open with" delivers the message of "Finale cannot open the selected file type. Please choose another file". Same experience happens when attempting to open from within Finale, or any attempt from anywhere whatsoever. Sadly, I do not have Finale 98 on any of my older machines. I have scoured old forums, and this new forum, but nothing has worked for me.

I would be most grateful for either advice, or an offer to put my piece out of its misery and open it for me!

If you own Finale 26 or 27 (and have registered them with Finale, as I suspect you have), you can use the "Submit a request" link at the top of this page to send your file to Finale Support for their help.

Over the years I have made a habit of opening and resaving important files (under a new name) each time I upgrade my version of Finale (and now I am porting many of them over to another program via XML both to be safe and to help me learn the new program). Of course that means keeping up with Finale upgrades, as I always do.

I have a number of 1998 projects that I can open. I may have opened and saved them in 2011 — I don’t remember. Use the Submit a request link to see if Support can help.

I used to have a G4 with 1998, 2000 and 2011 on it for dealing with such issues but it appears that my wife threw it out when my office was remodeled. I can’t be the only one with such a rig if it comes to that.
