So I have a friend that i collaborate with writing music. She uses finale 10 on a pc. I use finale 25 on a Mac. I know its a big difference. When she sends me a mus or muss file and i pull it up on mine the stems don’t reach the note. There’s like a little gap. Is there a plugin for that or has anyone had that problem? Thanks!!
I am not entirely sure what Finale 10 is, but if that was the 2010 issue, then you have to realize that the file format changed from MUS to MUSX in 2012; that may be an insurmountable barrier.
The first thing to check is that you both are using the same font. If Finale 10 is using Engraver and you are using Maestro (if you were using SMuFL the differences would be much more drastic), that would be the first thing to try to do, to standardize on Engraver, for example.
If that doesn't work, you may just have to give your collaborator a new version of Finale. :-)
If Finale 2010 for Windows, one would need the Dolet 6 plug-in for Finale to add MusicXML 3.0 support. The old press releases are still online but I am not seeing any active download links—the versions of 6 for Sibelius will not work and Doltet 7 for Finale requires 2011–2014.5. I have no idea if MM Support will make it available through the Submit a request link at the top of the page.
Otherwise, as Adrian has posted, one needs Finale 2012 or later. Good news is that the upgrade price is the same no matter what the previous version.
