Finale has two entry tools:

Simple Entry Tool

and

Speedy Entry Tool

The tool names are short, but misleading.

Both entry tools can be fast, and advanced.

The main difference between the two entry tools:

Simple: First specify the rhythmical value. Then the scale step will trigger the entry.

Speedy: First specify the scale step. Then the rhythmical value will trigger the entry.

In the Finale folder with Tutorials there is a tutorial document for note entry with the Simple Entry Tool:

I recommend that you take a good look at it.
