How do I do this for playback

Sign -> music 1 -> ending one -> skip ending 2 -> music 2 -> ds -> music 1 - > skip ending 1 -> ending 2 -> stop

This section starts with a 'sign', has 2 endings (ending one plays through; the piece stops at the end of ending 2); at the end of this section is the DS; from the sigh, take the ending 2 and stop.

If I understand your form, there are 2 instructions to program :

1) The DS al Fine : double click the handle and program a jump to the measure of the Segno (1)

2) The Fine : program it to Stop on Pass 2.

That's basically what I want to do.

Currently it is playing both endings then continues.  If I put the FINE at the end of the second ending it plays through the first into the second and stops.

The first time through it needs to play the first ending, skip the second, play till the DS, go to the sign, skip the first ending and play the second.

Try my suggestions, I have tested them :

It is important that your repeats be created from the menu.

Select the whole region and Create Simple Repeat.

Then select the region of the first ending and in the menu, select Create first and second ending.
Finale takes care of the navigation automatically if you do it this  way.

Did you create the repeats from the menu ? (see my suggestion).

P.S. : isn't my test file doing what you want ?

From your example, put rehearsal marks as follows

M1=B; M6=b; End of M7=C; M8=D; End of M11=E; End of M12=F

What needs to happen, play

A to C; E-F; A-B; D-E and stop

In your original post, I see now that you have "music 2"  instead going back to the top. You cannot make an "insert" after the first ending and before executing the repeat.

Maybe you should organize the form/path like this (no repeat bars, just D.S. and coda with fine) :

Sign -> music 1 including your "old" ending one -> music 2 finishing with ds -> music 1 with a coda-send just before your "old" ending one.

Then coda would be your old ending 2 -> Fine

You are certainly correct in the alternate approach.  Unfortunately, this is not an alternative since, as well as playback, the parts/score need to be printed as described.  Actually, the playback is somewhat extra in this effort.

So, a work around isn't really an option.   But it sure would be nice to have it play back as written.

Thanks for your ideas.  If/when I find an answer to this I will post it here.

After a bit of reflection, your suggestion fits exactly what I'm looking for, navigation-wise ... and makes more sense presentation-wise.  I'll change the organization as suggested and then convince the recipient that it is the better way.
