How are you entering the notes? Are you using layers to put the Kick in a downstem layer (like Layer 2) and the hand-struck instruments in Layer 1?

Do I need to assign a layer to each instrument in the kit?  There's only 4 layers.  Don't really have a handle on layers yet; studying it at the moment.

All the instruments are available in all 4 layers.

The use of layers is merely a matter of getting two simultaneous rhythms.

Enter the upper rhythm in Layer 1.

Enter the lower rhythm in Layer 2.

In the upper rhythm (upstem notes) you see the Layer 1 notes (in black) where at two cases there are two noteheads on the same shared stem.

In the lower rhythm (downstem notes) you see the Layer 2 notes (in red), showing 4 quarter notes.
