Hi,

I'm a little rusty with Finale.  I have version 26 currently, however, the one I was most comfortable was 2012.  I remember that there was a note pallet that had all note values plus a triplet button that would change from....for example...straight eighth notes to eighth note triplets.  Anyway, I'm having a hard time writing in the drum set notation.  I see what looks like a triplet button on the main tool pallet, but if I click it after or before clicking the desired note value it doesn't seem to work.  Help?

Welcome to the forum!

1) The palette with rests is in the Simple Entry Tool.

If the rests palette does not show, when you switch to the Simple Entry Tool, then you must enable it (look in the Window menu).

2) Finale has 3 Tuplet Tools:

There is the main Tuplet Tool, and there is a Tuplet (sub-) Tool in both the Simple Entry Tool and the Speedy Entry Tool.

a) In the Main Tool Palette is the main Tuplet Tool.

You will need that tool when editing already existing tuplets, or when creating complex tuplets.

b) In the Simple Entry Tool there is a Tuplet (sub-)Tool.

Use it to enter tuplets.

I recommend learning the keyboard shortcuts for the Tuplet (sub-)Tool.

For entering complex tuplets, use the main Tuplet Tool.

c) Also the Speedy Entry Tool has a Tuplet (sub-)Tool.

It sounds like you do not use the Speedy Entry Tool - and that is perfectly fine.

The tool names “Simple” and “Speedy” are misleading - since the Simple Entry Tool is both advanced and fast.

The main difference between the two entry tools is the order you do things:

Simple: first specify the rhythmical value, then the scale step will trigger the entry.

Speedy: first specify the scale step, then the rhythmical value will trigger the entry.
