Why, when I try and change something after adding a coda the whole piece gets screwed up?  It’s a simple lead sheet but if I insert a measure before the coda it splits the coda apart, if I change the the page size from US letter from A 4  (and why can’t we have that in preferences globally?) it screws up the layout. I have tried “ remove system locks” but to no avail. I have had to revert to “ delete the coda” after pasting it to a new doc, add measures to the end of the piece, adjust the chart ie add bars, change page size etc then redo the coda, pasting the original coda back.  What am I doing wrong?

Finale has long gone through some complex maneuvering to set up the coda layout on a page. It looks simple until one tries to undo it. Carefully looking at the various music frames on the page containing the coda shows how Finale has reset the system margins and even the vertical system layout to achieve what it has.

Perhaps Finale has evolved enough that it could now create codas in a more flexible format, but so far (if it even is possible) that has not happened. Fortunately, most of the time, folks do not have to undo their codas for further editing.

… if I insert a measure before the coda, it splits the coda apart …

I suppose that you created the Coda by using the plug-in Create Coda System - right?

Note that a Coda System is a system - it is not a measure.

Do not insert a measure somewhere before the Coda System.

Instead, insert a system somewhere before the Coda System (use the Page Layout Tool to do so).

Generally it is best to, not do layout work (e. g. create a Coda System) until you have finished {entering music} / {inserting measures}.

Some users do all the music entering in Scroll View, and do not switch to Page View until they begin working on the layout

Thanks for the help, sometimes I have have to redo a piece if we change it in rehearsal ie add extra bars or when I remember to change the page size for printing, sometimes I just leave it if it’s going to be a pain.
