Thanks, Brian. I read about Sforzando in another post somewhere. Certainly worth a try. Aria and VEP6 don’t always work well together. (It’s the only engine that I’ve found is problematic so far)....
Update on this issue. Whatever the cause of the crashes, perhaps a corrupted file, all is resolved. I downloaded a fresh copy of Finale and re-installed it. Presto...problem solved. Thanks Mike et al.

In the meantime I discovered that meta tools work great. Select time signature tool and press 3 and click on a measure for 3/4...press 4 for 4/4...etc.
