Yes, it is possible. You can use the 𝄋 symbol in any text in Finale: text block, text expression, lyric, &c. To get the 𝄋 symbol, use a font that has the symbol, like e. g. a music font.

Andrew Partington, Please specify the steps you've already taken (to solve the problem), so that we can rule out things. Have you e. g. - tried changing the file name extension from .mus to .musx?

I would try the Selection Tool. From the Selection Tool, double-click on the asterisk. If you are lucky, the asterisk will get selected so that you can delete it.
