The JW plug-ins are free, but Jari accepts (and deserves) donations. What Peter said. Make sure you download the proper version: 32 or 64 bit.

If you can get the file to open, then File > Export > Music XML, then File > Import > Music XML. But you're right, if you can't open it, you can't export it. My bad. Sorry. How does it happen? Gn...

Make a copy of the file. Export it as Music XML, and import it back in. That often clears out file corruption.

Peter, Try exporting the file as XML, and importing it back into Finale. That often clears up any corruption that may have crept in. If that doesn’t help, would you be willing to send me the file? ...

AFAIK, showing or hiding that bottom bar is not an option; at least, I couldn't find anything that would turn it off. My only suggestion would be to recreate the preference file.
