Put the notes where they belong (I assume in the staves with the grand staff brace) with copy/paste. Then delete the extras.

Well, if you want to draw fine distinctions, words “not attached to any particular pitch or rhythm” would be speech, not music.
-
You can do that. It’s just that the program won’t, so you need to do it, yourself. If you can post a picture of what you need, we can maybe give you a more specific answer.
-
Well, you’re doing something that the program is not designed to do, so you have to work within its limitations. That may involve resizing or shifting measures to accomodate the text steings.

Finale version? Computer OS?

Although Michel H is correct about the shortcut (S), you must be in the Staff tool. Staff tool > click the measure(s) > S This also works to convert notes to Rhythmic Notation with the shortcut R.

As I said: Engraver Font Extras font; Percussion subsection. They are all there.
-
Are they on separate channels?
-
I’m,still confused. You want the quarter up and quarter down characters for sharp, flat and natural? Engraver Font Extras font; look in the percussion section.

I used a slur. Playback will not be correct, though.
