You never said how big your file was. Using Graphics,/ Export Pages, my 18 page original still saves at 300K in F25 and gives is true black. So why not use that? Graphics/Export is also much faster...

Yea, if wake from sleep is the real culprit, then MM needs to address it. It's one thing for me to never let my Mac sleep—I use an iMac. Portables need to conserve battery life.
