Sounds like you should reinstall. Since a new Mac will be running OS 10.11, disable Human Playback in F 2012.

Ahhh... I have SmartScore Pro. Same problem—the instructions are out of date and assume that you have a PPC. Use Image Capture.app to scan. Now you will be able to convert and import it.
What version of Finale? Scanning and TIFF import have been removed from Finale 25.
Lots of complaints on that one. Probably best to submit a support case.
