When I enter the custom SmartShape area (at least in Windows), it already has a Ped * option. I don't think I created it myself.
Command-Click (Control-Click in Windows) on the "star within a hexagram" icon to open a list of additional Smart Shapes, from which you can choose from a variety of Ped. symbols.
