How to create multimeasure rest when I have chord in the part score - I dont want to delete it on the score/extract it? Can I force to create it?

Because I have chord symbol on my part score, when I hide it using staff style, it doesnt allow me to create multimeasure rest...... Thank you so much!Finale v.25 Macbook MacOs 10.12.6

I am not sure I understand the problem.

If I misunderstand you, then I apologize.

It sounds like you have chord symbols attached to the staff with rest measures, right?

You need the chord symbols to display on the staff in the score, right?

You need to hide the chord symbols to hide on the staff in the linked part, right?

First of all, generally a conductor would expect a staff in a part to look the same (with chord symbols) as the staff in the score:

- “… two measures before rehearsal mark B, at the B7 chord symbol in your part, …”

A conductor might ask for an improvised solo, based on the chord symbols.

If you could explain why you need the staff to display differently in the score (= with chord symbols) and the linked part (= without chord symbols), then we might be able to suggest a different solution.

Thank you for your reply! Sorry for my short explanation on my question. In full score, I put all the chord symbols on top of the system, that's Clarinet in Bb. Hence, the chord symbol will display in the part score of Clarinet in Bb althought it doesn't have the improvisational passage. Sadly, it prevents me to make the multi-measure rest in part score.

If I understand you correctly, the chord symbols are meant for “the score only”, and they are not supposed to show up in any part (not even in the Clarinet part), right?

In that case I would suggest another solution:

Add an extra staff above the score.

The chord symbols will be attached to this extra staff, and the extra staff will not display anything else than the chord symbols.

In the extra staff,

1) move the barlines vertically down into the staff below (this is done in the dialog box Staff Setup),

2) in the Staff Attributes, in the pane Items to Display, de-select everything except Chords (and Barlines),

3) in the Staff Attributes, in the pane Behaviors, de-select “Display Rests in Empty Measures”.

You can use the Resize Tool (icon: %) to resize the extra staff, thus resizing the chord symbols.
