Thanks, guys.  Definitely looking for the IPA (so the singer knows how to pronounce words from an unusual language), not Unicode.  I'll definitely look into the links.

You need to understand how Unicode works to enter the IPA fonts.

 

To paraphrase the Governator, "you'll be back…"

Anyone needing to use IPA glyphs, this may be useful:

http://ipa.typeit.org/  (on-line point and click entry, then copy and paste to your application.)

Interesting... and absolutely correct (you made me look).

 

Even though you can paste the characters into a Word or Text doc and print the results, Finale can't read them except as graphics (and who wants to enter Lyrics as Graphics?). Finale is not as sophisticated as a bare-bones word processor.

 

There you have it. No IPA font installed? Finale can't display the characters.
