This is confusing.

1) Your screen shots show that the systems are locked with 4 measures per system.

Is that the layout you need?

… requires FitMusic and sometimes manual spacing measures …

2) If you are using “Fit Measures”, then it sounds like you do not need 4 measures per system ???

3) By The Way:

Take a good look in Preferences - Edit, in the pane Automatic Settings.

Which options are selected?

1) yes I often use this pre-locked layout
2) the issue is the measure spacing glitches out when leaving Speedy Entry and blue measure cursor glitches when going to “re” fit measures to the already fit measures of 4/system! To re-fit measures is the work around I use to get out of the glitches

I suspect that the culprit can be found in the Automatic Settings.

Tried all of these and nothing helped. 

Then I suggest that you select the option

Automatic Update Layout

I suspect that selecting {Automatic Update Layout} will solve at least some of the problems.

You can still, always, Update Layout manually:

Utilities menu > Update Layout (note and remember the keyboard shortcut)

Auto Update Layout does not fix the problem. Notes and measures still thrown off page to right, as in my 2nd pic in first post. 

Thanks, the quick cmd-U for Update Layout is much faster than the doing Fit Measure over and over again. Still, seems like a pretty basic bug for MakeMusic to fix since 4 or 8-measure systems are a common and effective layout

That look sometimes happens when one has too many notes in a measure.

You might check that Check For Extra Notes is on in the Speedy Entry menu and then select the first measure of notes and  Right-Arrow through each of the measures.
