Here's a new one! Staff order nightmare on some pages, but not all

Dear Hive Mind,

For the last two days the following problem has me pulling my hair out. 6 instruments, 7 staff score: Vibraphone, Soprano, Violin, 'cello, Baritone, Piano (two staves) in that order. In scroll view, no problem: staves always appear in that order. In the page view, no problem for the first 15 systems. But from system 16-21 the order is suddenly Vibes, Violin, 'cello, Bar, Pf right hand, SOPRANO, Pf left hand. Stays that way until System 22, when suddenly the correct order is restored. The change is not measure number related, because when I push measures from the incorrectly ordered system 16 back to 15 the order is correct in 15 however many measures are in it. The staff usage dialogue box clearly shows the (wrong) order for 16-21.

a) how did this happen? b) how do I fix it?

I even deleted the whole of the soprano staff, closed the file and quit Finale, opened the file, added a new staff and added the music. Same thing happened.

Any ideas?

I can not explain how it happened, but here comes an idea.

Could not hurt to try it - on a backup copy of the Finale document:

Page Layout Tool.

Page Layout menu > Redefine Pages > All Pages of Current Part/Score

Thanks! Good idea, but I couldn't get it to work. In the end, I added a new staff at the bottom of the score (instead of the 'right' place), pasted the contents of the misbehaving staff into it, deleted the original and used Re-order staves to put the new one in the correct place. Bingo. But I don't understand why adding the new staff in score order didn't work (because apart from where it was on the page the process of recreating the part was identical), or why the error didn't come with the material I transferred from the 'bad' systems and infect the new staff. Unless I am missing something, that would seem to imply that it wasn't anything I did, but just a random glitch?
