inserting a whole note under 8th notes

How do I insert a whole note underneath the first 8th note in a measure? I get the program to let me add that. I have Finale PrintMusic 2014

You use layers. Please look in your help files and/or watch the tutorial videos. Layers are a very basic function in Finale (and PrintMusic) and you must understand their use.

Layers

An independent overlay of music in the same measure. In PrintMusic each measure may contain 4 layers of music.

Use Layer 1 and Layer 2.

Put the lower part (= the whole note) in Layer 2.
