For decades I have used both the Playback controls and Space-bar Click for playback. Recently, if I accidently use Space-bar Click while the Playback controls are open, it will play BUT THEN any time I click anywhere on the screen it will start playback. Whether or not I close the Playback controls or leave it open. This makes any further editting impossible, forcing me to Quit and Relaunch Finale.

I've had this problem for a while, but it is getting significantly worse. At this point I can't use the Playback controls to play or I'll need to restart Finale. As always, on a deadline and would love some input from other users.

 

Finale 26.3.1.643,  Mac OS 10.15.7, iMac Pro

I’m not having this issue. We need more info. What is open? What tool palette are you using when this occurs?

Thanks for the follow up question. It seems to happen regardless of 1) what tool I’m using, 2) what other applications are running, 3) which mouse I use, 4) what color shirt I’m wearing. 

Here’s a typical scenario:

iMac Pro running Finale, Logic Pro, MainStage, as well as Mail, Messages, and Chrome. Connected to and sharing the screen of Mac Pro.

Mac Pro running Vienna Ensemble Pro Server.

Ok, I use an iMac Pro and am not having your issue. I am not running VEP, however. Although I have LPx etc., my DAW is Digital Performer which I connect via ReWire to Finale.

Thanks Mike, I’m going to see if this works with another start up disk. It may be a Mac OS issue more than a finale issue.

On another note, are you running Big Sur? Have you heard of compatibility issues with music software?
