Can you export an XML to preserve your work until you can figure out the Saving problem?

yes I exported...

and I discovered that was probably CleanMyMac that, getting rid of junk files, threw away also some Finale hidden file...

Therefore always close Finale before acting on the HD!

-2 is a generic macOS error that means an app cannot find a folder or directory it's expecting to write to.

 

The crapware known as CleanMyMac is often the culprit. It might not delete the destination but it will often corrupt the path. Per Apple:

 
CleanMyMac is not needed on Mac computers. It can harm user files and lead to poor performance and an unstable Mac. If installed, we suggest that it be deleted.

 

I agree 100% and charge my clients a lot of money if they screw up their systems by using it against my advice.
