I scanned a score for SATB. There are places in the score where one or more of the staves do not appear. For example, when just the sopranos and altos are singing, the tenor and bass staves are dropped. However, Finale assumes that the two lines are tenor and bass. Or in SAT sections, where bass is missing, Finale thinks it's ATB. It appears to assign instruments to staves from the bottom up.

Is there a way to fix this? I am using PrintMusic on Windows, but I would consider upgrading

How are you scanning and recognizing your score? A full-featured music scanning program like SmartScore will allow you to correct the assignment of the staff. If you used a photo-to-XML app, you’ll have to fix it in PrintMusic. Your best workaround will be to add a couple of blank staves (as a clipboard) and copy and paste the parts where they belong.

I found the solution: When I view the score in Scroll View, the missing staves appear at the top. I just have to cut and paste the affected measures from lower staves to upper staves and in some cases correct the clef and transpose the measures up or down an octave. In Page View, PrintMusic must always hide empty staves.

I was using the SmartScore that comes with PrintMusic to process TIF files that I created with my printer's scanning app.

That’s SmartScore Lite, which lacks the editing abilities. Glad you got it sorted out.
