I just coincidentally stumbled upon Finale's rewire function (at least I think that's what it's called). I am working on a complex transcription from an AIFF file in Cubase 8.5. Cubase because I can set markers etc. I am transcribing in Finale 25 which runs alongside. At first I liked that the cursor in Finale followed the song position in Cubase. But it gets really annoying if you need to look at a different spot in Finale then the measures playing back in Cubase (to compare something, for example). Also, if the audio file varies in tempo, or there are repeats in the Finale file the pointers drift. Try as I might but I couldn't find a way to break the connection.

Is there a way?

Hi Peter,

If you launch Finale first while your DAW is closed, it will not open in ReWire mode. If Finale somehow still in ReWire mode even when you launch it before the DAW, then try choosing MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Reset ReWire. Happy transcribing!

Hi Peter,

A quick correction to my last statement. Choosing the Reset ReWire is not the correct thing to do. Closing the DAW and launching Finale first is the correct procedure to avoid ReWire mode.

Great, thanks for the help. I found that out by coincidence after some trial and error after I tried to quit Cubase while Finale was still running. Got a 'can't quit Cubase' message.

Try restarting the computer. Then open Finale before you open Cubase.
