I have a chart that requires using swing in some sections and Latin in others. In 2011 is it possible to assign different styles within one score?
Yes, you can counteract a swing setting by creating an expression (called "straight"?) which sets the Swing value to zero. Like a swing designation, it has to be applied to ALL parts via a score list.

I have the same problem. I am writing a straight 8ths ballad and in the middle I want to go to a Basie Style Swing. In detail, and in order, please explain how I make the playback play swing for 32 bars in the middle of the piece and then go back to straight 8ths?
Thanks,
Chuck
I did the above. Got the swing feel but can't get the right tempo qt.=160. Tempo plays one measure and then slows completely down! Please tell me what to do. I have obviously missed a "step". I have a Mac; using Finale 26.

… Tempo plays one measure and then slows completely down …
My first thought is that the culprit could be MIDI Tempo data.
Try this:
Selection Tool.
Select All.
Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…
In the dialog Clear Selected Items, de-select everything, and select only Tempo Changes.
If that does not help, try disabling Human Playback.
