We have Finale Print Music 2006.  I know it's old.  We are a small religious community. Someone assisted us in obtaining Finale because at that time we did not have Internet.  (Even now we do not freely use the Internet because of our way of life.)  We used it on a Windows XP computer until this past June.  Since we didn't use Internet, I never realized that it could be moved to another computer...  In June, I found out we could move the software, and we moved it to a Windows 11 computer by phone. The MakeMusic Customer Support Rep emailed the steps to follow, however it was not possible to register the Finale program with the wizard registration using the Internet method, I needed to call to complete the registration. There was no problem with that method.  The Rep stated that sometimes it is a problem to register via Internet with older versions.  He stated that it would be able to transfer to another computer if ever needed and said if any more help was needed, we could reach out.  The Finale program worked well until at the very end of August when I tried to use it, Finale Print Music 2006 would not work.  We got a 'system error' pop up.  I realized that the Windows 11 computer updated and probably the update changes caused the error.  We had the computer checked and everything was working well with the computer.  We decided to move Finale to a Windows 10 computer.  After figuring out how to do it online we successfully authorized the program for Windows 10 computer.  We received an email confirming the authorization.  I input all the info given in the email in the Finale wizard registration questionnaire to register while using the program.  It accepted all the data and I got the message, 'thank you for registering' but I could not use any of the methods listed for registering listed in the wizard (Internet, phone, or fax/mail). While I am able to use Finale now, every time I open the program, I still get a prompt to Register before the 30 day deadline.  I don't know what is wrong or what to do.  Thank you for any help.

Windows 11 cannot run 32 bit apps like 2006 unless it's over the WoW64 Subsystem

Before Finale 2012, it can be registered but cannot be authorized over the internet. Authorization is done with the key code that should be printed on a sticker in the manual or the disk sleeve if memory serves me. It's been a long time and I no longer have my disks for anything prior to 2012.

We had the Finale 2006 on Windows 11 and I think it worked well on Windows 11 - until the computer updated. Then it would not work and we got the Error message: "The code execution cannot proceed because CTL3D32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix the problem. (Reinstalling did not fix the problem.)

This is all Greek to me, but we now have a sister who knows something about computers. She typed on notepad:

Searched C Drive and found this file in the filepath: C:\Windows\WinSxs\x86_microsoft-windows-ctl3d32...

Searched Google and found the following information and instructions:

"When troubleshooting an issue involving the ctl3d32.dll file and the Finale music program, it is important to know that ctl3d32.dll is not found in Finale's program folder. Instead, it is a Windows system file. The error most likely occurs because an older version of Finale expects to find this file in the Windows system directory, but its location or permissions may be incorrect, particularly on 64-bit versions of Windows."

"Expected location of ctl3d32.dll

The correct location for the ctl3d32.dll file depends on the bit version of your Windows operating system:

On a 32-bit version of Windows: The file should be in the C:\Windows\System32\ folder.

On a 64-bit version of Windows: The file should be located in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder. Older 32-bit applications, like some versions of Finale, may still look for it in the System32 folder, causing the error."

"Copy the DLL file (for 64-bit Windows). If the file is only in SysWOW64 on a 64-bit system, some users have found success by copying it to the System32 folder. This is a workaround for old 32-bit programs that cannot find the file in the correct location.

Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\.

Find and copy the ctl3d32.dll file.

Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\ and paste the file. You will need to grant administrator permission."

But, also saw the following warning in Google:

"In nearly all cases, you should not manually copy DLL files from the System32 folder for music software like Finale. Doing so can cause more harm than good, as it can lead to system instability, conflicts with other software, or corruption. The correct solution depends on what is causing the DLL error."

We thought that Geek Squad could help, but I got the impression that they only fix computer problems. The Geek Squad tech person stated that the problem is with Finale, so contact them...

Then we decided to put the Finale 2006 on a Windows 10 and only use the computer for Finale.

Maybe I did something wrong in the process of deauthorizing/authorizing, downloading to the computer... I tried once, but I put the wrong info in. I tried a second time with correct info. I'm wondering if I forgot to delete the first downloaded Finale before I tried the second time.. I think I will try again when I have time.

I'm sorry this is so long. Thank you so so very much for your input.
