Windows 10 & Finale version 25  (this method has worked the same for many previous versions of Finale)

Type the stanza number & add a period      1.   Then, without using the space bar following the period, push Alt, hold Alt down and type 0160. Lift  Alt  and type the first word or first syllable of the first word, i.e.,  1. Praise   which is center be placed left flush under the first note of the hymn.
