Windows 10, Finale v26 (current)

I have a rather lengthy section for the piano in a trio that I wish to sound 8va.

Typically, I would use the Smart Expression 8va: click to enter the symbol and continue dragging for the duration of the 8va.
In this case, the notes all are hovering over the top line in treble clef, and continues for several bars and staves.

Is there a way to start the 8va and allow it to continue without using the line, but use something like a switch to turn it on and then off?

I could transpose the whole section up an octave, but multiple ledger lines and harder to read, and the notes will conflict with the staff above.

Using the dashed line for the 8va over several staves makes for clutter.

Thank you,
:-)

You're not being clear as to what you need. Are you just wanting proper playback? Is this for a real pianist to play?

You can create an 8va expression which will transpose up the octave and use loco to cancel that command. Without seeing the music, I can't make a more specific suggestion, but if I were engraving this part for a live musician, I would use the standard 8va dotted line but separate the systems a little bit more to avoid the cluttered look.

Hi Jeffrey,

Wow! Thank you for the speedy reply.

I apologize for not being more clear.

What you said: "You can create an 8va expression which will transpose up the octave and use loco to cancel that command." is exactly what I am looking for.

So, I just took at look at "Expressions" and found both 8va and loco already there!
Never saw them there, before.

Thank you!
:-)
