Hi folks......

I had Audio Units working splendidly with Finale 26 and my USB keyboard. With no other changes to my system, I have no sound from Finale 27. Checked AU playback with my DAW (Digital Performer) and it's working great. Even tried switching to MIDI (still nada) and re-starting my Mac (same).

Any suggestions to revive this?

Check which driver you are using in MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup (at least that's what the path is called on a Windows machine). I find I have to reset my audio device to DirectSound regularly when I get a new version of Finale. Although DirectSound is (I believe) a WIndows driver only, there may be a comparable reset needed on your Mac.

Yeah, I have gone through all the system-level stuff on Audio/MIDI Setup. No issues, and it’s working fine in other apps.

Also on Windows machine, perhaps on a Mac, there is a setting for giving the app exclusive control of the sound device. Make sure that is unchecked. I believe on a Windows machine it is set on by default.

Thanks, Windows brethren, for the thoughts. Audio/MIDI Setup has been fully and properly configured… it was before I upgraded and continues working splendidly for my DAW.

Solved!

After I upgraded, MIDI/Audio->Device Setup->Audio Setup… had defaulted to a generic USB profile for the output instead of my audio interface and I hadn't checked that because its been years since I had to look at it. Working again.

After I upgraded,…

There are many reasons why it might do that besides an upgrade but the normal culprit is that another app that uses Audio has seized control, sometimes temporarily. This can be a DAW, Zoom or a half dozen other things.

It would be nice if there was a shortcut to MIDI/Audio->Device Setup->Audio Setup in Preferences — because that's what it is and most Mac apps do put it there. Unfortunately, there isn't (yet?).

Agree, Mike. That's exactly where I was looking for it. It's just one of things you set and then forget because you never have to change it, unless you change your system… or upgrade Finale.
