If you find that an Audio Units plug-in does not appear in the Audio Units Banks & Effects dialog box (MIDI/Audio > Audio Units Banks & Effects), the following action items will help get to the bottom of the issue.

  • First, check that the version of the plug-in you have is 64-bit capable. A 32-bit version of the plug-in will not work with the latest version of Finale. If you are using Finale 2014.5 or earlier, make sure you have the 32-bit version of the plug-in component installed; Finale 2014.5 and earlier were 32-bit applications.
  • After confirming that the standalone player is working, and that you have the correct bit-version of the plug-in, please confirm that the component is in your computer's audio plug-ins Components folder.
    1. Close any open programs. If Finder is not showing in the upper, left-hand corner of your screen, click somewhere on your desktop to activate Finder.
    2. From the Finder toolbar, choose Go > Go To Folder.
    3. Type in...

    /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components

    1. Press RETURN.
    2. In the folder window that appears, confirm that your plug-ins ".component" file is present.
  • After checking the presence of a component file, the bit version of the plug-in, and the status of the standalone version of the plug-in, reopen Finale. If the plug-in is still not showing up in the Audio Units Banks & Effects dialog box (MIDI/Audio > Audio Units Banks & Effects), choose MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Rescan for AU Plug-ins. After doing so, restart Finale.
  • If the plug-in is still not showing up in the Audio Units Banks & Effects dialog box, follow the steps below to manually reset Finale's AU Cache files, the files that tell Finale what AU plug-ins are installed.
    1. Close any open programs. If Finder is not showing in the upper, left-hand corner of your screen, click somewhere on your desktop to activate Finder.
    2. From the Finder toolbar, choose Go > Go To Folder.
    3. Type in

    For v25 ~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/PlogueEngine

    For v26 ~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 26/PlogueEngine

    1. Make sure that the tilde symbol (~) is included at the beginning of the directory and press RETURN.
    2. Delete these two files:

    au_x64.cache

    au_filter_x64.cache

    1. Restart Finale.

You should now see your plug-in available in Finale's Audio Units Banks & Effects dialog box (MIDI/Audio > Audio Units Banks & Effects).
