Every license for a Finale notation product has a unique serial number. New licenses and upgrades bought directly from MakeMusic are automatically registered to your account, while new products purchased from dealers must be registered manually. A Finale serial number will have a format of four letters followed by a hyphen and then 6 to 8 alphanumeric characters (note that some serial numbers may be only numbers). Ex: XXXX-123456, XXXX-1A2B3C4D. You can find your serial number(s) in one or more of the following locations:
- In your account: Log in to your MakeMusic account and choose the My Software page.
- In the program: Choose About [Product Name] from the Help menu (Windows) or the [Product Name] menu (Mac).
- In the package: For boxed products purchased from a dealer, look for a yellow sticker on the CD/DVD case/sleeve or an authorization card.
If you upgraded your Finale or PrintMusic license from an earlier version, your serial number will remain the same. If you traded up from an entry-level product such as SongWriter or PrintMusic to the professional-level Finale, you'll receive a new serial number.
