Hello,

I'm using Finale v27.2 with included Garritan Instruments on a 2021 14" MacBook Pro running Monterey to input a portion of Die Walküre. Specifically the aria Winterstürme from Act 1. I have done a lot of looking but not come up with any information on how to handle Wagner horn transposition.

[For those who don't know they are a cross between a French Horn and lower Brass horns. They are scored like a standard horn section, two pairs of high and low players. Like horns they switch transpositions mid-score.]

My goal is to recreate the score that reflects Transposition Changes on the Staff Name and plays back the correct pitches and sound. And generates usable parts.

The problem I'm experiencing is that, unlike a reed player doubling clarinet and flute, Finale only has the Horn in F transposition and no other. So I can't use the utility “Change Instruments” or the slick “JW Plug-ins Instrument Change” because Finale is wise to the fact you can't change to the same instrument.

Here are the changes I need to notate for this section:

Horn I  : m.310 in F

Horn II : m.310 in B-flat; m.338 in F

Horn III: m.310 in F; m.346 in E; m.364 in F

Horn IV: m.310 in B-flat; m.346 in E; m.365 in F; m.378 in B-flat

Any help would be appreciated, Steve

I would use custom staff styles to change the staff transpositions.

You can include the changed Staff Name in the custom staff style.

At the place of instrument change, add an expression, to display the instrument change.
