I have tried manipulating the two grace note spacing tools in Document Options (Grace Note Offset and Music Spacing/Grace Notes) in different combinations but cannot find a satisfactory spacing. The grace note in the middle of the measure is too close to the preceding note always. Any ideas how to remedy this ? This is with Note Spacing (Timesignature and Beat Spacing are much worse).

I could move them manually but know of no way to definitively lock the spacing of a document, so any other minor edit would provoke the return to the funky spacing.......... Thanks

Why is the slur extended to the grace note?

Ian Swedlund,

It is not clear to me what layout you are looking for.

Perhaps something like this?

Mike: I slur the grace notes to the next ones because, for a string player, that is how we play them (normally). When I remove the slurs and respace the music, nothing changes so it doesn't seem to me that the slurs are affecting the spacing ..... ?

Peter: yes, that is exactly what I am looking for .......

Try these settings:

By The Way:

In the screen shot the Scaling Factor (= φ = 1.618) gives Fibonacci Spacing.

If you need a “tighter” spacing, try a lower Scaling Factor, e. g. 1.414 (= the square root of 2)

Thanks so much Peter - that looks very good and gives me a lot of tools to experiment with. Greatly appreciated !
