Hello!

I have a quick question. Somehow my default tuplet got changed from 3 to 6 and I just need to know how to adjust this. I have my keyboard programmed in speedy entry mode so that when select a note and press "9", it will apply the default tuplet to the highlighted note. (Currently, it applies a 6 and I want it to apply a 3). Thanks for the help! I haven't run into this before, I'm guessing I accidentally changed something recently.

You mention “Speedy Entry”, but your description - select a note and press "9" - sounds like Simple Entry.

Are you using Speedy Entry or Simple Entry?

Argh sorry, I meant to say Simple Entry. Good catch! So yes, the problem is occurring when using simple entry NOT speedy entry.

Thanks!

I think that Option-9 will get you to the dialog box where you can change the Default Simple Entry Tuplet Definition.

Unfortunately that isn't bringing anything up. Is there perhaps another hot key it might be?

Jeffrey Chambers,

For me, Option-9 opens the dialog box Simple Entry Tuplet Definition, but only when I have selected an entry in the staff.

Just to make things clear:

1) You are in the Simple Entry Tool, right?

2) You have selected an entry in the staff, right? (The tuplet will begin on the selected entry.)

3) You are hitting Option-9, right?

Hi Peter,

Yes, I double checked everything you asked about. I am in simple entry, I have selected an entry in the staff and I tried Option 9. The result is that it does nothing. I'm wondering if perhaps I accidentally deleted that hot key command?

Thanks,

Here's some other notes.

When I am in simple entry mode and I hit the number 9 only, it will begin a tuplet on whatever note I have highlighted. Right now, that default tuplet is "6", and I would like it to be "3". So that's what my question is. How do I change the default tuplet from 6 to 3?

Also, when I am in simple entry mode and I hit number pad+9 this brings up the simple entry tuplet definition box which is helpful. However, this box acts as a one time fix for the problem. I can enter whatever tuplet/combination I want in this box but it only happens that one time. It doesn't stay that way...

Thank you!

Jeffrey,

2 ideas:

1) Finale was developed for American keyboard layout.

* Are you using American keyboard layout?

2) Take a look in

Simple menu > Simple Edit Commands > Change Duration > Create User-Defined Tuplet

* What keyboard shortcut is displayed in the Change Duration sub-menu, next to “Create User-Defined Tuplet”?

At the bottom of the Simple Entry Tuplet Definition dialog box there is the option “Save as Default Simple Entry Tuplet Definition”.

Put a check mark in the square next to “Save as Default Simple Entry Tuplet Definition”, and the Default Tuplet will “stay that way”.
