I'm writing music including microtones, and i use the Special tools > accidental mover tool to change each accidental i need to be microtonal. It would be more effective if i sometimes could change all the symbols in one measure simultaneously (to the same new symbol). I've tried highlighting all the bulbs, right click and change to the desired symbol, but it only changes one at the time all the same. Is it not possible to do this? (I wish there were a better solution to microtonal accidentals).

Agnes Pettersen,

1) To speed up your current workflow, consider using the Edit Filter to copy accidental alterations for all the accidentals “in one measure” (= your own words).

2) You wrote:

Is playback important?

You can set up a nonstandard key signature that divides the octave in as many steps as you need (24 steps? 53 steps?), and define note accidentals for that nonstandard key signature. In that way you have all the accidentals “natively”, and do not need to use Special Tools.

However, to get correct playback you will need an external playback device capable of dividing the octave into that many steps.

Finale’s own playback devices (Garritan, SmartMusic SoftSynth &c.) are not capable of octave subdivisions in more steps than the traditional 12 half-steps.
