I have a score with a tempo marking quarter note = 196.

I'd like to review some of the harmonies at a slower tempo, but the tempo box is ignored.

Is there a way of making it temporarily play back at a much slower tempo (i.e. I don't want to have to delete the tempo marking and add it again)?

This is on Finale 2014.5.

Thanks,

Phil

Hello Phil,

There are a couple ways you can do this. You can either turn off Human Playback (MIDI/Audio > Human Playback > None), or go to the expression and right click for Windows, or control + click for Mac, and choose Edit Expression Definition > under Playback set Type: None > OK. Then follow the same path to turn either of the two off.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, Kevin. The Human Playback was already set to none, but the 2nd suggestion worked. Great.

I loaded a .mid file created in Noteworthy, tempo set to 92 and which played correctly in VLC media player.  It loaded OK into Finale except for the repeats/endings.  Playback however was very slow (about 60), despite the tempo in the playback tool which was set to 100.  Changing the playback tool tempo had no effect on the slow playback.  Making changes in the Base Key Velocity in the Playback Tool/Playback Settings had no effect either.

Thank you, Mike.

The playback tool bar was initially set to 96 and the Finale import version played it much slower.  I had to increase it to 120 to achieve the same tempo as in the original .mid file, set to 92.  But changing the playback tempo in Finale now works on the imported file.  It is still an 'offset' problem, meaning that I have to note the tempo on the printed page at one tempo while setting the playback tempo in Finale a little higher.
