Iam currently running Finale 2012 in Windows 7. This version of Finale does dot allow importing PDF files. Does the new version of finale allow importing PDF. If not why and what software is recommended by Finale to convert PDF to TIFF.
If the PDF was created from a music notation program, then the best solution is PDFtoMusic Pro.
This is because PDFtoMusic Pro knows things that an OCR program can't know.
For instance, PDFtoMusic Pro knows
- that staff lines really are drawn as lines,
- that a notehead is a musical font character, rather than trying to determine a notehead from a bunch of dark pixels on a page.
The flip side is that PDFtoMusic Pro can not handle optical scans from a scanner at all.
For optical scans you need a music OCR program like e. g. SmartScore, or SharpEye.
No version of Finale imports .pdf files. Musitek has two solutions.
in addition, SmartScore Lite, bundled with Finale 2014.5 and earlier, can scan and generate .tiff files readable by a Finale lyrics and many expressions don't import with SS Lite.
The cheapware only works if the .pdf was created from a notation program and the font info is embedded. The freeware is worth the price and the cheap versions are generally a waste of money.
