Finale Printmusic 2014 windows 7

I have created an Xml file using EXPORT on the File menu. I have sent it to someone by e-mail and have also tried to open it myself. Both of us are redirected to XML editor online and it opens in machine code (letters and numbers etc) My friend uses Apple mac.

Just to be sure, you are importing the .xml file and not opening it like a .musx, right?

I'd like to know about that too, I'm using Songwriter 2012 and if I want to share my music with a friend who doesn't have Finale, I have to go through many steps, one of which is the print screen option on my pc, and unless I first use the xps printing option it comes out with a yellow background, which is annoying.

To share, you export as MusicXML. Since this is supported in Notepad 2012, I think it is in Songwriter 2012, also, but I can't be sure.

My experience is that no two notation apps handle .xml the same. Do not expect a file you export or import to look like the one you exported unless the original was created in a version of Finale from the same year or earlier. Still, it can be a tremendous time saver.

Encore, for example supports MusicXML v.1.x and can't import or export lyrics nor most expressions. Overture 5 will import .xml created in Finale including lyrics but cannot export lyrics (huh?!?!?) and often can't get clefs right(fix the clef and the notes go where they belong). Notion 6 is pretty good but has the same clef issue as Overture 5. MuseScore... there's worse.

I am using Finale 2010 on windows 11.

I am trying to import xml files and i can't make it work.... Muse score 3.

I have downloaded notepad 2012 and can open the files and save them. I can't open the new file with my old version.

I have tried exporting from notepad as xml 1 1.1., and 2, but I still get an error when i try to import with 2010.

Do I need an older version of notepad? does that exist? What happened to ETF?

thanks in advance for the help

Ok... MuseScore 3 is exporting MusicXML 3.0, a version that did not exist till around Finale 2014.5. You need the Dolet 6 plug-in for Finale Windows that, if I remember correctly, could add MusicXML 3.0 to Finale 2009—2014. Dolet 6 cannot handle XML 3.1 — that required Dolet 7 and Finale 2011–2014.5

https://www.musicxml.com/dolet-plugin/dolet-plugin-for-finale/

It's not found on this site. Neither the D7 version for Finale nor the Sibelius version of 6 will work for you.

You can try using the Submit a request link at the top of the page to see if MakeMusic Support has a link.

Perhaps someone has saved a copy and can get it to you (I checked, I no longer have it). Otherwise, Google is your friend.

Hi Mike,

thank you for the info. I looked at Dolet 7 and realized it wouldn't work. I will try to find v. 6.

The original score was composed in Capella, so I downloaded a trial version, but I don't have the time to learn a new program. :(

one of theses days I should upgrade to a new version :)

Thanks again.

I believe Finale 27.2 will import/export XML v2 files. I've not tried it but it looks like it is there.

If you would like me to try send me a copy in email eebiggs1 at gmail dot com (use normal email address)

Ernie, you’ve missed the point. 27.2 will open MusicXML from MuseScore but Win 7 will not run it; per MM, it needs to be Win 8.1 64 bit or later.

To the OP, if you cannot find Dolet 6 for Finale Windows, it’s upgrade time, both Windows and Finale.

MuseScore is free and worth every penny. It’s MusicXML import/export is much better than it used to be — I now consider it not very good, a great improvement.

Yes I agree. My reply which I admit was poorly written but intended as a suggestion the OP upgrade to 27.2 To make sure it would work I offered to try it for him.

Agreed. Upgrading both Windows and Finale is the best solution.

I found an old site to download Dolet 6 for Windows, versions 6.4 and 6.7. To be very clear: I do not work for MakeMusic, I no longer own a Windows computer and, most importantly, I have not verified these downloads. This is not a MakeMusic or affiliated download site. You download and install at your own risk.
