This is Finale V25 on iMac, HighSierra.

For a guitar exercise I need to create a video of Finale playing back a 5 minute/four page piece. I can probably do a screen capture for the video but a problem are page turns in Page View and scroll lag in Scroll View. If you're just reading along with the music while it plays this is not a problem, but it sucks if you are playing along. Has anybody here done this sort of thing? And how did you do it?

I guess it could be done achieved by clever video editing but that seems a bit extreme.

I am toying with the idea of trying to set this up in Cubase but it would be great if the music looked like the printed version.

You want this to happen in one pass and have explained why that won’t work. Focus on the result you want and not on how you’d like to do it. No need to look for a fancy trick to make that work.

You need two passs. Make a recording of the audio. Make a video showing the playback in Scroll View using screen capture without audio. Add the audio to the video. No clever ideo editing involved.

Thanks. It never hurts to ask. Even after using Finale for over two decades there are many things I don't know about it - a preference setting to keep the playback point in the center of the page could have been one.

Re-reading my original question (and your answer) maybe I wasn't clear:

I can record audio and video of the scrolling music but when the playback cursor reaches the end of the page/or portion of music shown in the window and goes to the next page - you can't read ahead (if you are sight-reading along). Maybe I am alone in this but when I sight-read I want to see maybe two or three measures ahead from where I am. Also in a video that skip doesn't look very professional.

I didn't have a problem with that—even if I captured the audio with video. So I took a good look at my test file.

In Scroll View, when the wiper hits the bar line, the window changes. By making the bars a bit longer and adjusting the window size, I can make it so that 95% of the last measure in a window is showing. The instant the wiper touches the bar line, that measure becomes the first measure of the next window. The upside is that it allows you to read ahead; the down side is that you get to read only one measure ahead at window changes.

Wouldn't that be nice? Like a horizontal piano roll but with the notes moving. Digital Performer, my DAW of choice, added that feature in 2001 with v.3, as I recall. It was a big deal for me when that happened.

Still experimenting. Your suggestion sounds good. Will give it a try.

Ideal (for my purpose) would be a "long/endless" page (in Page View) that scrolls staff line by staff line. Coming out of that I tried to use the 27" screen of my iMac and make a page large enough to show the whole piece in Page View. This works for 3-4 regular pages and the size of the music is good enough to read. Captured video with Quicktime. It might be too grainy for good video.
