To get the page numbers “in sequence”, use the automatic page number text insert:

Text menu > Inserts > Page Number

Set this “page number” text block to display on all pages (= do not create a new text block on each page).

To begin the page numbering from another number than 1:

Text menu > Edit Page Offset…

I am sorry. I meant to type some page numbers need to start on the right hand side of the page while others need to start on the left hand side of the page.  

I cannot let Finale start numbering the file by ignoring page one, then start numbering on page two on the left hand side of the page.  I need to dictate which side to start numbering.

How do I make sure every page starts 0.50 from the margin?  I have to make sure these page have the same distance from the top of the page as the Microsoft Word documents.

To leave page 1 unnumbered yet start with page 2 on a specific side of the page, you need to run the text field containing your page insert from page 2 thru page 0 (zero, a placeholder for end-of-file).

Margins are also determined by the setting of your text box(es).

Thanks for responding.  After following your directions, this is the problem I have.  The numbers are all the same and on the same side of the document instead of alternate sides.  This is what I was experiencing before.  And when I try to use the edit page offset, it doesn't work.

This is what happened.

These are my page numbers that I put in manually, Looks close but I am not getting the same numerical setting for each page number.

This is after I followed your directions: for each of the 11 pages.  The same page number. If I change one, they all change.

And it doesn't matter if I start on the 2nd page or the first, it does the same thing.

Please advise as to what I am doing wrong.  Thanks.

You didn't configure your screen quite the same as I did. You need to put one number on the right and the other on the left.

To get the page number to change, as Peter says, you must put CTRL-SHIFT-P in the text field. That is the shortcut for the Page Insert on the Text Menu. (I imagine that is CMD-SHIFT-P on a Mac.) If you want to start numbering the series at page 100 (or some number other than the default), you need to change the starting number in the Text Menu > Edit Page Offset.

Now I am confused.

I thought that the issue here was page numbers, not measure numbers.

Of course you are confused: my mistake (senior moment). Page Offset is the command to use for the OP's situation. I'll edit my prior post to avoid the mistake.

I made the correction of putting right instead of left for the right positioning at the bottom of the page attribute screen.  I am having the same problem.

I have manually put in page numbers, once again I am not satifisfied with that because I need to make sure all page numbers line up evenly before printing.

Can you show me step by step how to have the page numbers entered again, with each page number not being the same.  I am not quite sure when to use the page offset, you can't get the insert screen unless you have already selected a page number.

I can get the page offset on one page but not another.

Just please tell me from step 1 to step whatever what to do.  I would surely appreciate your guidance.  Thank you.

Step by step:

1) Text Tool.

Double-click (just about) where you ned the page number.

You get a text block with a blinker.

2) Text menu > Inserts > Page Number

If you did this on Page 3, then it displays as ‘3’.

If you did this on Page 4, then it displays as ‘4’. (Geddit?)

Do NOT type any number.

3) Click outside the text block to leave the text block entry mode.

Now the text block displays a text block handle.

4) Drag across the text block handle to select it.

5) Text menu > Frame Attributes…

The dialog box Frame Attributes appears.

6) In the pop up menu, set the Page Range as desired (e. g. All Pages).

Set the positioning on Left Pages and on Right Pages as desired.

Click OK.

You return to the score, with the text block handle still selected.

7) Text menu > Edit Page Offset…

Set the Page Offset as desired.

Not that it matters, but you can even type a negative number.

Okay, I thought I had it.  I follow your directions to a tee, but when I select OK it will put the page number on the opposite side of the page I selected.  Again what am I doing wrong?

 This is on the right side of the page

Insert from text menu>Page Number; I am on page 2.  Good!

text block handle selected - Frame Attributes

Select OK and the page numbers go to the opposite side that I want them to be on.  BAD

Please advise. Thanks.  The page numbers flip to the other side no matter what numbers I put in the page attribute menu.

If page number appear on the wrong sides, set the first pulldown to "right" and the Right Page  Alignment pulldown to "left."

(I generally set my page numbers in the outside corner of each page.)
