This may seem like a stupid question, but I need to be sure. Does the human playback data ever get saved when exporting/saving the score. I imagine it gets saved in a MUSX file, but how about MID, XML and MXL. Essentially, how do I bring that human playback goodness into other programs like DAWs?

IIRC Human Playback is recreated on the fly each time you run your file, but it is exported as part of a MIDI export.

There are some old notes that HP is not part of a MusicXML export (.xml).

Reading the current MusicXML release notes and history, I don't see that the functionality has ever been added.

If Mr. Good sees this, he might weigh in. You can also ask this through the Submit a request link at the top of the page where he is more likely to see it.

Because HP is subjective and you can pick among styles, It's turned off on any file I export via MIDI or .xml.

Normally the Human Playback interpretation is created “on the fly” - and not stored in the Finale document.

In Other Words:

The interpretation is created again and again, over and over, every time you play the document back.

However, with the MIDI Tool you can have the HP interpretation written into the document’s MIDI data (= saved in the document):

MIDI Tool menu > Apply Human Playback…

When the HP interpretation is written into the MIDI data, the interpretation will play, even when HP is off.

I suspect that you can get this “saved” interpretation into “other programs like DAWs” via a MIDI file, exported from the Finale document.
