I'm entering some French text (using the Lyric tool) beneath a single line of music. Because of the way that French sometimes elides syllables into one another, I have to place a syllable, a space, and the next syllable beneath a single note. Since Finale processes all spaces (whether typed into the score or into the Lyrics window) as directions to move on to the next note, I can't do this! Is there a workaround that anyone has found?

I'm using Finale version 25.3.0.276, under Mac OS 10.12.4 (Sierra).

Use a "hard space" - on Macintosh, "option/space".

In Windows, it's ALT+0160

Or Ctrl-Spacebar (in Windows). You can find this listed in Tools > Lyrics > Lyrics Window, and click on Text.

However, there is one gotcha to be wary of: in some fonts the hard space is not a hard space. If your font has this problem, you can create a hard space in (for example) Times New Roman, copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into your text. A hack, for sure, but it does the job.
