We bought a new computer and I'm trying to install my Finale 2012 on it. It keeps telling me I have the wrong number of characters when I type in the serial number, which I took from right out of the box. I tried it without the dash. I tried just putting in the characters after the dash. This is extremely frustrating. Any suggestions?

Open a support ticket with the link at the top of this page. This is primarily a user forum.

Meanwhile, will it install and run in demo mode? If so, that should give you 30 days to get the registration sorted out.

A couple:

Log into your Finale User Account. Copy the serial number and paste it into your activation. Also, if you have too many authorizations, you can re-set them under Manage Authorizations.

Temporarily disable any firewall or port blocker that is not letting the MM License Server see your serial#

Some applications do not work if minus signs or other non-standard dashes are used in the serial number. I do not know if Finale is one of them.

What OS and platform are you installing on?

I tried the copy and paste method suggested above. It gave the same response is that is exactly how I was typing it in manually.

I don't know how to disable a firewall and have no idea what a "port blocker" is.

I am using Windows on a PowerSpec computer.

In your Windows Security Control Panel (I'm assuming there is one) there should be an option to disable the firewall. Although not generally a good idea, for the short time it takes to authorize, you'll be fine. Just remember to turn it back on.

Perhaps John should contact MM directly for help with his account by using the Submit a request link at the top of this page (as Mike suggested above).
