Dear Hive Mind,

I have come across an interesting problem which seems to be a resizing issue: for some reason, even though I have the resize percentage at 110%, it is printing out at a font size that is smaller than a similar score set at 65%. Both have Maestro Wide 24 selected as the music font. I'm using 2014.5 (I'm writing an opera and I don't want to switch everything over to 25 in the middle of a project!) - I seem to remember in earlier versions Page Set Up had some arcane settings that addressed this issue but I can't seem to find it in 2014.5. In the meantime I'm printing out everything at 125%, but that has repercussions. I am sure I must be missing something. Help appreciated.  Simon Andrews

What is printing out at a smaller size? Do you mean the musical notation, like noteheads? Or do you mean text - expressions, page text, lyrics, etc.?

You might want to check to see if individual staves have been resized inadvertently. In my opinion, staves should always be left at 100% unless a stave is meant to be "cue size".

No, I mean everything is printing out smaller, music, dynamics, articulations etc. It's as if the page were sized at 55%. . .

Did you resize using the Page Layout Tool: Resize Pages; or did you resize from the Page Format menu? If you resized from the Page Format menu you would have to Redefine Pages using the Page Layout Tool for it to take effect ... but this will change the layout if you've made manual adjustments to margins and such.

In the Print dialog you can choose a scaling percentage.

What can be confusing, is that there are 3 other scalings at play:

- Page Scaling

- System Scaling

- Staff Scaling

My guess is that the Staff Scaling is not a factor (= the Staff Scaling is probably 100 %).

To examine the Page Scaling:

Resize Tool.

Context-click on the page.

In the context menu, choose Resize Page…

To examine the System Scaling:

Resize Tool.

Context-click on a system.

In the context menu, choose Resize System…

Also, take a look at

Document menu > Page Format > Score…

However, the settings in Page Format for Score only apply to new systems/pages - already existing systems/pages are not affected.

To update already existing systems/pages with changed settings in Page Format for Score, switch to the Page Layout Tool, and Redefine Pages.

That's what it was: in the Page Format>Score submenu somehow the Staff height self adjusted to some weird number (61. with lots of decimals) instead of 82. I certainly did not change that! I wonder what random gremlin got into the works...

Many thanks for your help. The Page Format submenu was what I had been looking for. Do I remember it being in a different place (or did I dream it?).

In the end I just compensated with the resize tool, but in future will know what to look for.
