When entering tremolos to notate a double stroke roll I keep getting these ghost notes in the background. They disappear during playback, but show up when I want to print. I'm on a MBP 10.10.5 Finale 2014.5

Do not worry. The “ghost notes” will not print - they are hidden notes.

 

To avoid seeing them on the computer screen, go to

View menu > Show > Hidden Notes and Rests (de-select this option)

How can you keep them from being created in the first place? I purposely use hidden notes and rests, but these show up every time I play the file, and I have to manually delete them so I can see the original notes. I have not applied HP to the file. I use HP when playing in order to use certain expressions.

I don’t think you can. They are the notes that are being played by the expression. Can you dial down the hidden note transparency to where it’s not so much of a problem?

Did you try my advice above of, not showing Hidden Notes and Rests ?
